Rickey Brooks Obituary

My Beloved Husband, Friend and Lifetime Partner, Rickey Richard Brooks, age 65, of 1020 Perkins Lane, Elizabeth City, NC  was standing guard at the Gates of Heaven and on Monday, March 23, 2020 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, it was his last shift. On that day Rickey made a request unto the Lord, He said “I am tired and I am ready to go Home” and Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ honored his request (Philippians 4:6) as a Faithful Servant. He was preceded in death by His parents, the late Mark H Brooks and Katie G. Brooks and son, the late Rickey Brooks, Jr. He was the loving husband of Phyllis G. Brooks. He also had a special mother-in-law, Edna Godfrey whom he loved dearly.

Rickey started his career in Army National Guard serving 5 years and he worked for United Airlines as Aircraft and Powerplant Mechanic for 13 years. He served in United States Air Force Active and Reserves for 19 years as Aircraft Structural Airframe Technician, Homeland Security USCG Aircraft and Supply Center as Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic for 14 years retiring in January 2017. During his career he received numerous Certificates of Achievement Awards. Rickey was a faithful, dedicated member of Fountain of Life Church where he was always worshipping and praising His Lord and Savior.

His smile and hugs would always uplift those he met. Prayer was always how He saw God work not just in his life but in the lives of all. His service in God’s Kingdom was on the Pastor Prayer Team, Altar Ministry, Greeter, Usher, and Mission Team. In 2015 he completed mission trip to Guatemala where God used him mightily. He still considered St John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana dear to him. The last couple of years he was a DX driver for Biggs, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. His main hobby was working on cars, traveling USA and abroad. His memorable place he and Phyllis traveled was Israel in 2017 with his son AJ and his wife Sarah and some FOL Family. Spending time with his grandchildren was a favorite past time. He was a magnificent loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

In addition to his wife, Rickey is survived by three sons, Michael of Chesapeake, VA; Marsharel Moore of Woodville, NC; AJ and wife Sarah of Woodville, NC; one daughter, Michele Brooks of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, John “Doug” Brooks and Eddie R Brooks of Portsmouth, VA; one sister-in-law, Prophetess Carol Godfrey; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Godfrey of Elizabeth City and Charles Godfrey of Leland, NC; six grandchildren, Tyeshia Waters, Shaneya Brooks, Ali Brooks, Kymariah Moore, Isaac Moore and Amelia Moore; special son, Corey Hall of Manassas, VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Nancy Vineness; A very special family, Jay and Sharon Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana whom were traveling buddies.
