Our beloved, Deacon John General Pershing Moore, age 74 of Hertford, NC, departed from this earthly life to be with His heavenly father on Wednesday morning, October 24, 2018 at the Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, with his family by his side. 

"Because he lives, I can face tomorrow
Because he lives, All fear is gone
Because I know he holds the future
And life is worth the living, Just because he lives..."

Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Melton Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Winfall, NC at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Alvin J. Boone, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will take place at the church on Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the loving family receiving friends at that time.

He is survived by his loving wife: Patricia Ann Moore, of the home; loving children, Danielle Moore of Hertford, NC, Johnetta Moore of Winfall, NC, Celeste Moore of Brooklyn, NY and Nicole Moore of Milltown, NJ; step-children, Shirley Foreman and Tavis Foreman (Jennifer) of Hertford, NC; siblings, Alexander Moore (Dorothy), Calvin Whidbee (Sue), Betty Moore-Jones, all of Hertford, NC; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Isaac Moore (Oralee); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

As a verse of the hymn loved so much by Deacon Moore, we can be comforted as it simply says:

"And then one day, We'll all cross the river
And fight life's final war with pain
And then, as death gives way to victory
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know he reigns"
