Edward “Eddie” Columbus Wilson was born on April 4, 1935, in Currituck County, NC to Glenna Wilson and Wiley Cowell. He entered the heavenly Father’s fold on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Life Celebration Services will take place on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at the Mercer Family Cemetery on McKimmey Road in Camden, NC. A viewing will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Eddie has been preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eugine Mercer Wilson; two sons - Earnest Gallop and Jeffrey Wilson; two brothers Grady Wilson and Cardwell “Trim” Cowell Sr.
Eddie attended school in Currituck County. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1961. He relocated to New York where he secured employment with New York City Transit as a bus driver. He met his late wife Eugine Mercer Williams after she moved to New York in the mid-1960s from Camden, NC. They were introduced by mutual friends. That introduction led to friendship and marriage. They shared a life together for over 40 years.
After his retirement from the New York Transit Authority, he continued to drive buses for several tour companies, taking customers to multiple places across the United States while living in Brooklyn, NY as well as after he and his wife relocated back to Camden, NC.
At an early age, he joined New Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Shawboro and upon returning to North Carolina rejoined New Providence where he became an active member of the church. He served as Trustee for a period. He became a member of the Deacons Laymen Union and enjoyed the fellowship and service of the group. He especially enjoyed being with the members when they went as a group to various revivals prior to the onset of COVID.
To mourn his passing but celebrate his release from pain and suffering and to cherish his memory are brothers Claywood Wilson Jr. and William Henry Trotman Sr, both of Moyock, NC; sister Carol Diane Wilson of Norfolk, VA; a grandson: Jeffrey Wilson Jr., of Brooklyn, New York and two great granddaughters: Zion Keyana Reese Wilson and Joy Promise Wilson both of Brooklyn, New York, two stepsons Shedred Williams (Arlene) of New Castle, DE and Selwyn Williams of Chesapeake, VA, one stepdaughter Lillie Williams of Camden, NC and seven step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.
