Remembering Shanu Gallop

Our beloved, Shanu Gallop, 51 of San Diego, CA, departed from this earthly life on October 14, 2021.

Life Celebration Services will take place on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC with Pastor Daniel Spence, Officiating.

Shanu (Lamont) Gallop was born September 3, 1970 in Elizabeth City, NC. Lamont was the son of Sharron Campbell. Lamont attended, baptized and joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Sunday School and church at Mt. Carmel until he moved from the area. Lamont attended schools in the Elizabeth City Pasquotank County School system. He was a 1988 graduate of Northeastern High School. Lamont attended N.C. A & T University for one year.

After that Lamont made the decision to join the Army branch of the military. Lamont was stationed in the24th Mechanized Division in Fort Stewart Georgia. He served proudly in the Middle East during Desert Storm. Serving in the military was an honor for Lamont. However, being involved in combat greatly impacted Lamont and resulted in him having difficulty assimilating back into life as a civilian.

Lamont was preceded in death by his grandparents Hardy and Eva Gallop, who also adopted and raised him; two aunts, Gloria Spellman and Joan Gallop.

Lamont leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Sharron Campbell of Camp Spring Maryland; two sisters, April Gallop and Helen Campbell-Bynum (Richard) of Camp Springs Maryland; three aunts/sisters, Von Jean Little (William) Kennesaw, GA, Treva Gregory (Joseph) and Bonita Whitehurst (Johnnie) of Elizabeth City, NC; two uncles/brothers, Hardy Gallop, Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC and Orrin Gallop (Beverly) of Hampton VA; a great aunt, Sarah Marquart of Oyster Bay, NY; a great uncle, Stanley Boone of Edenton NC; a nephew, Elisha Gallop; a soon to be here niece, Naomi Campbell-Bynum ; two cousins that were like a brother and sister to him (Konata Spellman and Lineaka Spence) and many other cousins.
