Sarah Ann Holman was born on May 29th, 1947, in Swiftown Mississippi to Mack and Ella Larks. She was the seventh of seven children. Her sibling were Hugh P., Percy, Fred, John, Lovie and Laura Alice. On April 10th, 1962, she was married to her childhood love Sanford McMurtry Sr, and to this union brought six children, Sanford McMurtry Jr, Ronald McMurtry, Greg McMurtry, Derek McMurtry, Ellis McMurtry, and Shannon Renee McMurtry. Seeking new opportunities, the family moved to Randolph Massachusetts in 1969.
Sarah was blessed with a loving, kind, and warm spirit which she graciously shared. Her inner strength, commitment, and patience was her testimony as she worked various retail jobs in support of her family’s needs including Grants department store and CVS. Her sacrifices yielded good fruit through the success and opportunities she provided for children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren!
After moving to North Carolina in 2003, Sarah gave her life to the LORD, joining Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church in Moyock, NC. On September 10th, 2005, Sarah and Richard Holman were joined in holy matrimony. Richard’s children are Derrick Gregory (Trina) of Atlanta, GA; Antonio Butts of Elizabeth City, NC; Richard (Jillian) Reese of Columbia, SC; Monchelle Brothers of Goldsboro, NC; Desiree Vallade of Houston, TX; and Aisha Davis of Elizabeth City, NC.
On Monday, February 12th, 2024, Sarah went home to be with the LORD. We miss her dearly but are so thankful for the life and times we shared, knowing we will see her again soon.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Ella and Mack Larks (Swiftown, Mississippi), her sisters Lovie Brandon (Mississippi) and Laura Howard (Sarasota, Florida). Her brothers Percy Larks (Detroit, Michigan), Hugh P. Larks (Grenada, Mississippi), and John Larks (Detroit, MI).
