Hertford, NC - Overseer Booker T. Coston, Jr., 76 departed from this earthly life on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at his residence surrounded by loving family and friends.
Life Celebration Services will take place on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Perquimans County High School Gymnasium with Bishop Jobie Boone, Officiating and Bishop Winfred Hamlet delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford, NC. A viewing will take place at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Masks are required.
Booker T. was preceded in death by two brothers, Alton and Milton Coston and two sisters, Ethel Luvenia Coston and Rosa Beckles. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Mary Coston of the home; one son, Ronald Coston of the home; two daughters: Pamika Sylvester (Corey Sr.) of Suffolk, Va and Tawanda Smallwood (Andre’) of Windsor, NC; seven grandchildren: Shaquille Holley, Teanta Coston, Ronteesha Coston, Corey Sylvester, Jr., ZaCoria Sylvester, Taivion Sylvester and Ajanae Smallwood; one great-grandchild: A’Nas White and two special great-grandchildren: Izaac and Ezekiel Benton; three brothers, Isaac Coston (Vanessa), Alvin Coston (Rosalyn) and Otis Coston, all of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters: Hattie Downing (Erie) of Edenton, NC and Ethel White (James) of Hertford, NC; Four uncles: Josephus Parker (Louise), Linwood Parker, Leonidas Parker and Albert Davis, all of Hertford, NC; one aunt: Mary McCrea (Leroy) of Philadelphia, PA; four brother-in-laws: Winson Pettaway, Jr. (Barbara), Kenny Pettaway (Cynthia), Hugh Beckles of Elizabeth City, NC, and Charlie Pettaway of Long Island, NY; four sister-in-laws: Evelyn Taylor of Long Island, NY, Deloris Whidbee (Charlie) of Elizabeth City, NC, Linda Mae Pettaway and Dorothy Foreman (Percy) of Hertford, NC; three Godsisters: Mamie Parker, Gloria Elliot and Angela Turner; a special childhood friend: Lionel “Priest” McClenny; a spiritual son: Tyrone Phelps; a special daughter, Marilyn Cain; a special co-worker: Tommy Reese and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
