Marguerite Jane King (nee Overton) passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. She was born December 18, 1921, in Perquimans County, North Carolina to John Thomas and Annie B Overton (nee Jones). She was preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, and a beloved daughter. A dedicated healthcare professional, Marguerite cultivated a career that spanned 40 years at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York City, New York. She grew up in Elizabeth City, North Carolina where she was a founding member of Holy Trinity Community Church. After graduating from P.W. Moore High School, she moved to New York where she was a member of Greater St. Luke Baptist Church. While in New York, she married Eddie King on 5/4/1951 and gave birth to daughter Carrie Mae King-Hardy. Upon retirement, she returned to Elizabeth City North Carolina and rejoined Holy Trinity Community Church, where she was a devoted member until her passing. Marguerite enjoyed word finds, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She is survived by a brother, Wren (Rose Lee) Overton, two grand-children- Jor-El (Mia) and Llee Hardy, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Oak Grove Cemetery.
