Mabel Butts Freeman

Our beloved Deaconess Mabel Butts Freeman, age 80 of Elizabeth City, NC, departed from this earthly life on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Life Celebration Services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, NC. Interment will follow in the Butts Family Cemetery, Camden, NC. A viewing will be held on Monday July 8, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three children; Dr. David Calvin Freeman, Jr., of Boston, MA, Demetria Freeman Davis (Martin, Jr.) of Romulus, MI and Dr. Monique Freeman Jones (Rudolph, Jr.) of Chesapeake, VA; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; Shirley Brooks (Charles) of Tinton Falls, NJ and Marion Brooks of Elizabeth City, NC; five brothers; Woodie Butts, Sr., (Margaret) and  Rev. Oscar Butts, Jr., both of Camden, NC, Chester Butts of Elizabeth City, NC, Victor Banks Butts of Camden, NC and Arnold Mercer of Wappingering, NY; two brothers-in-law Howard Freeman of Baltimore, MD and Rev. McKinley Freeman (Carolyn) of East Orange, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mitchell Funeral Care and Cremations is assisting the family.
