Our beloved, Deaconess Kay Frances Skinner-Stith, 75 of Elizabeth City, NC, departed from this earthly life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Life Celebration Services will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church, with Bishop Samuel T. Stallings, Officiating and Bishop W. James Thomas, II, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Dove's Landing Cemetery. A viewing will take place in the chapel of Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church, on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Deaconess Kay Francis Skinner Stith was born on June 11th, 1947, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Willie Archie Skinner and the late Ella Louise Morris Skinner White.
Deaconess Kay accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Holy Trinity Community Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. After moving to Dover, Delaware Deaconess Kay joined Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the Building Committee, participated in the Combined and Sanctuary Choir, assisted with the Soup Kitchen, Co-Chair of the Marriage Enrichment Committee and served as a greeter every Sunday morning. Deaconess Kay was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for close to 50 years. After returning to Elizabeth City, NC in 2019, she joined the Grace Church EC in 2021 to keep her faith alive.
Deaconess Kay received her formal education in the Elizabeth City – Pasquotank County Public School System. After graduating she attended Elizabeth City State University where she graduated with her Bachelors in Sociology. She later received her Master’s in Education from Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Maryland. Deaconess Kay retired from Delaware State University after 35 years of service. After retiring from Delaware State University Deaconess Kay returned to her first love of teaching in the elementary schools in the Dover Public School system, where she became “Mentor of the Year” in 2014. She is also a member of the first Africa American sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she has served on several committees throughout her membership.
Deaconess Kay Francis Skinner Stith departed this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She was proceeded in death by her sister Florence Skinner Riddick and her brother ShermanSkinner. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Trina Gregory of the home, Jamel Gregory of Elizabeth City, NC; and Jamar Gregory (Courtney) of Alexandria, Virginia; two God Children Kendall Brite and Chante Brite both of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces and nephews. She has a special love for her grand dog “Draco” and her stuff animal “Coconut”.
