Gilvon Figgs Obituary

Gilvon Figgs, also known as "G," "Chill Gil," and "Bone" ( with only a few long-time friends), was born to James A. Figgs Sr. and Irene Riddick Figgs on April 7, 1961, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 15, 2024, after his wife and family prayed over him. Just as it was uttered, "In Jesus' name. AMEN," he took his last breath.

A man of few words and so gently spoken, Gilvon left this earth with no enemies. He is known to be a very patient man, and very slow to anger. However, when Gilvon had something to say, he meant what he said, and everybody listened. Gilvon became a Fire Fighter for the Elizabeth City Fire Department for a short time after being honorably discharged from the Army. Truck driving was his first love, but being a musician was his passion and what he was widely known for, playing the acoustic and electric guitar, and yes, he played the bass as well. Gilvon was a member of a few groups including Legacy, and Direct Funk, in which he played alongside his brother, James A. Figgs Jr. Gilvon played covers by ear from favorite artists Sade, Prince, and Bob Marley, to name a few. Gilvon made a few appearances at the Potato Festival while in the group Direct Funk.
