Chad "Pappy" Ellsworth Newton

Chad Ellsworth Newton aka “Pappy” passed surrounded by loved ones on Monday, July 3, 2023, at the age of 57. His battle with cancer in recent years showed his courage and how he always faced life's challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Chad came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

The simplest pleasures in life brought him great joy. He loved fishing, treasure hunting, playing his guitar, and spending quality time with his family. He is best known for his storytelling and huge heart. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in the hard. You would never know the adversities he faced by the huge smile on his face. He always put family first and his love ran deep for anyone who had the pleasure of being in his life.

He was a special man to many and will never be forgotten.

Chad is preceded in death by his Father Larry E. Newton, Mother Shelby J. Newton, Brother Larry (Lenny) Newton, Brother Dwayne A. Newton, and Mother in law Linda J. Summerfield. 

Chad is survived in death by his wife, Judith L. Newton, to that union they had four children: Christina M. Hicks (husband Steven V. Hicks), Jennifer A. Newton, Amanda J. Pecher, and Amber L. Newton. And Sister-in-law Deborah F. Jenkins. He had 16 grandchildren: Andrew, Travis, Callie, Steven, Jordan, Alani, Jacob, Anya, Taylor, Asia, Eugene, Ariana, Giana, Gracie, River, Mckayla, and 1 great granddaughter: Addilyn. 

Chad's life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Care and Cremations Chapel. Following the service, the family is welcoming friends to join them for food and fellowship at 3726 Longhill Arch, Chesapeake, VA, 23323.
