Our precious Lord, took the hand of Former Presiding Elder Walter Leigh, and led him home on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his residence, 3840 Waterside Drive, Apt 105, Elizabeth City, NC.
Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Lebanon A.M.E. Zion Church, Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Gayln Wilson, Pastor, Rev Tony D. Henderson, officiating and The Right Rev. Kenneth Monroe, delivering the eulogy. A viewing/wake will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Leigh's Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Hertford, NC. NO VIEWING WILL BE HELD AT THE HOMEGOING SERVICE. The earthly remains of Elder Leigh will be escorted accompanied by loving family and friends to his final resting place in the West Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Presiding Elder Fondella A. Leigh, 239 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC.
In addition to his wife Shirley of four and half years, he leaves to mourn his legacy: two daughters, Sheila Leigh Hyman (Tony) of High Point, NC and Presiding Elder Fondella A. Leigh of Hertford, NC; three step-sons, Michael White (Yolanda) of Belvidere, NC, Gregory Willis (Elvia) of Germantown, MD and Henry White (Annette) of Clarkston, Wa; one sister, Ida Mae Harris of Palm Coast, FL; nine grandchildren; as well as a host of other close relatives and special friends.
