Odessa Arlina Williams

Ms. Odessa Arlina Williams, age 76 of 702 Hampton Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation Center, Elizabeth City. 

A celebration of life will take place on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, NC with Dr. Walter L. Smith, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC. 

In her earlier years, she was selected by Mrs. Coretta Scott-King and her sister, Edith Scott-Towinth as a founding member to work for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Library in Atlanta, GA. Due to her dedication and love for her parents, she then returned home to Elizabeth City, to care for them. She then began working as a Librarian at the Elizabeth City State University, where she retired with over 30 years of service. She was a dedicated member of Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church where she was the first female Trustee and vice chairwoman of the Trustee board. 

Odessa leaves behind to cherish her memories: seven cousins, Bicie Williams - Fields (James) of Atlanta, GA, Karen Susan Williams of Newark, NJ, Barbara Williams- Small of Newark, NJ, Farah Nuraden of Jersey City, NJ, Deborah Williams of Atlanta, GA, Atty Leon Henley, Jr or Washington State and Gay Williams of Newark NJ; a special cousin, Margaret Jackson (Johnnie) of Elizabeth City, NC; a special friend; Sandra B. Davis (Robert) of Elizabeth City, NC; her Godchildren and those who called her mom, Dr. Rebecca O. Davis of Boston, MA, Barry L. Davis of Durham, NC, Dorothy Mercer of Camden NC, Delores Mercer Walston of Waldorf, Md, Donna Mercer-Jones (Vincent) of LaPlata, MD, Denise Mercer-Williams (Paul) of Camden, NC; a special cousin, Robin Dublin of Burlington, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Final Care and Compassionate Services are being provided to the Williams and connected families, by Mitchell Funeral Care and Cremations.
