We stand during this time of profound sorrow along with the Johnson and Modlin families to announce the transition of Mrs. Evelyn Johnson Modlin. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Vidant Chowan Hospital Hospice Care, Edenton, NC.
Evelyn and James, Jr., have elected to celebrate their mothers life on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Melton Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Winfall, NC with Rev. Alvin J. Boone, Sr., officiating and Rev. James E. Modlin, Jr., delivering the eulogy. She will be laid to rest in the New Roadside Cemetery, Hertford, NC. She will lie in repose on Thursday from 10:00 a.m until time of service. A viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a wake service beginning at 7:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the home of the deceased, 851 Ocean Highway North, Hertford, NC, 27944.
Along with her sweet potato biscuits, 7-layer chocolate cakes, 7-up cakes, fruit cakes and her MELODIOUS soprano voice, she leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Evelyn A. Modlin of Browns Mills, NJ and Rev. James E. Modlin, Jr., (Elaine) of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren; three-great grandchildren; her siblings, Mabel Turner of Virginia Beach, VA, George Johnson, Jr., of Baltimore, MD and Doris Rainey (Edward) of Elizabeth City, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
