Edna Bond Obituary

God in His infinite wisdom has once again closed the curtains of life in the Bonds family as they said farewell on Wednesday evening to their beloved, Edna Ruth Bond, affectionally known as "Doll". She exchanged time for eternity peacefully at the age of 71, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loving caregivers, family and friends.

Born on September 21, 1947 to the late James Edward and Caroline Hyman Bond in Pasquotank, NC, Doll, had a love for people and would do whatever she could to help aid the needs of someone else. She never let her health overtake her spirit of being concerned about the well-being of another loved one when she truly needed encouraging herself. Her love for God, placed her in many capacities in her church such as the Gospel Choir, Senior Choir, Usher Ministry, Building Fund Clerk, Tax Consultant, just to name a few.

The family has elected to commemorate her life and legacy on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Samuel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, NC with Pastor Kevin Lighty, officiating. She will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Interment will follow in the New Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home of the deceased, 1704 Peartree Road, Elizabeth City, NC daily from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. where they will also assemble on Wednesday for the funeral cortege.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: three siblings, John A. Bond (Arlene) of Brandywine, MD, Velma Sawyer of Elizabeth City, NC and Wilbert Bond (Fern) of Temple Hills, MD; three god-daughters, Carolyn Rountree (Eugene) and Teresa Heckstall of Elizabeth City, NC and Tanya White (Thomas) of Hertford, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. As Edna is now away from pain, misery and doctor appointments, we can be comforted in knowing as the psalmist pinned these words, "Nobody told me, the road would be easy, I don't believe He's brought me this far, to leave me". So for now, it is not goodbye but a simple, see you later in that GREAT gettin' up morning!
