Mr. Ernest Everett (Buck) Harris, Sr., age 71, of 1287 NC Hwy 343, South Mills, NC, transitioned from this life with family surrounding his bedside on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Samuel Allen Harris and Lillie Mae McCoy Harris. He was the husband of Audrey Herring Harris. 

Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Open Door Christian Fellowship Church, South Mills, NC with Rev. Joseph Thompson, officiating and Rev. Tavonda Fields, delivering the eulogy. Interment will military honors will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC. A viewing will take place on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at New McBride AME Zion Church, South Mills, NC. The family will receive friends at the home of the deceased. 

Besides his wife, Ernest leaves to cherish: one daughter, Joi Whidbee of Elizabeth City, NC; three sons, Ernest Harris, Jr., (Jewyl) of Moyock, NC, Danny Harris (Jennifer) of Fredericksburg, VA and Allen Harris of Baltimore, MD; stepson, Chester Hope (Collena) of Dover, De; stepdaughter, Amanda Roberson of Woodbridge, VA; three sisters: Cherry Thompson (Rev. Joseph), Minnie Aydlett (Clarence) both of South Mills, NC and Glenda Armstrong (Carlton) of Elizabeth City, NC; one brother: Allen Harris of New York; four brother-in-laws: William Herring (Luella) of Elizabeth City, NC, Boyd Williams (Rose) of Lincoln, DE, Theodore Williams and Frank Williams (Debbie) both of Millsboro, DE.; six sister-in-laws: Delois Harris of South Mills, NC, Eva Harris of Camden, NC, Carolyn Adams Russell of Milford, DE, Delilah Coleman (Robert) of Oklahoma, Melva Whaley (Ronald) of Lincoln, DE, and Alice Gibbs of Bridgeville, DE.; 10 grandchildren: one great-grandson: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Final Care and Compassionate Services are being provided to the Harris and connected families by Mitchell Funeral Care and Cremations.
